Let’s talk numbers. Suppose you spend $3,000 on a luxury vacation. If that $3,000 were invested at a modest 7% annual return for 30 years, it would grow to about $22,800. That’s the opportunity cost. Now imagine making five similar purchases in your 30s — that could be over $100,000 of future value gone.
